Deadlines Sacrosanct, Modi Tells Ministers

Express News Service

NEW DELHI: While advising his ministers to keep the deadlines of projects in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that due publicity should be given to the achievements of the government.

In his second review meeting in less than a month, the Prime Minister on Wednesday evening said the deadlines, especially of social-sector schemes, are “sacrosanct” and should not be missed at any cost. He said when the government announced a scheme, it increased the expectations of the people.

“People maintain a watch on end results. To live up to their expectations, we should not miss deadlines,”  Modi told his colleagues in a three-hour meeting. When some ministers said certain UPA schemes were still fresh in people’s minds owing to “massive publicity”, Modi said if ministers gave concrete proposals, the government could highlight feats using billboards.

The Prime Minister took stock of several projects, including his pet scheme Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Several PSUs had made massive contributions towards the project. When a minister highlighted the work done by his ministry, Modi asked if the Prime Minister didn’t know about the achievements, how a common man would know.
