NEW DELHI: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has made a strong pitch for bringing a bill in Parliament to pave way for construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. It even appealed to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi to support the bill in the House.
Expressing hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would throw his weight behind the project, VHP joint secretary Surendra Jain said, “Modiji is a smart politician. He is aware that people who are pushing for the temple are also responsible for his victory as well as those who want development. He will respect their emotions.
“Modiji has a plan for 10-15 years. Lambi race ke ghode hai woh (he is a man for the long innings). He can be there (in power) for 10-15 years only when he is able to deliver on the core issue. Hence, we are confident, he will,” said Jain, adding that a delegation of saints would meet Modi over the issue.
Reaching out to Sonia Gandhi, Jain said, “Her husband wanted the temple to come up. He had launched his poll campaign (in 1989 general election) campaign from Ayodhya with a commitment that he would bring in Ram Rajya. So, how will she not fulfill the will of her husband? At least, she should not oppose it. Rahul too should have a change of heart.” He claimed they have already met over 500 former and present Lok Sabha members, seeking their support. Jain maintained the bill was “important” to see that the temple takes shape, as approaching courts in this regard will be time-consuming, with disgruntled parties in the matter exploring legal options for favourable results.
DUSU Mock Parliament to Debate Ayodhya New Delhi: While a seminar on the Ram temple by a VHP-affiliated organisation, Arundhati Vashishtha Anusandhan Peeth (AVAP), is being opposed by NSUI and AISA, the Delhi University Students’ Union has decided to hold its mock two-day parliament on the subject on January 16. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, at the seminar, said the temple construction would begin by end 2016. |
