Haven't Gone Soft in Maxis Case: Jaitley

Express News Service

NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday said action will be taken against those found guilty in the Aircel- Maxis deal and denied that the government was going soft on anyone. He said three Acts - Income Tax Act, Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) - govern the investigations.

The minister said he would not go into the specifics of the cases. However, he added that once the chargesheets were filed they would become public. “Pursuant to that entire information, witness statements are being recorded,  documents are being analysed, Letters Rogatory have been sent by the ED to several countries,” he noted.

He said during the course of investigation, a series of raids were conducted by the IT Department and ED against several companies, particularly in Chennai.

The AIADMK during its protests in the Lok Sabha repeatedly referred to two ex-DMK union ministers and an ex- finance minister in UPA-II by name but the Speaker disallowed it.
