Political Slugfest Over Flight of Mallya With Rs 9,091.4 Crore Debt Pile

Express News Service

NEW DELHI:  A week after the ‘king of good times’ now a self-professed ‘poster-boy of non-performing assets’, Vijay Mallya, fled the country amidst an investigation and media glare, Rajya Sabha too was in hot pursuit. The BJP and the Congress pointed fingers at each other, on who’s to blame, the regime in who’s tenure he managed the unsecured loans or the one who could not catch the `9000 crore bank defaulter.

The slugfest spilled over to outside the Upper House, as Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi claimed it’s yet another example of the government’s ‘fair and lovely’’ attitude towards big defaulters and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley reminded him of Quattrocchi’s exit.

“Must remind Rahul that there is a basic difference between Mallya leaving and Quattrocchi leaving the nation,” said Jaitley, stressing that the day Mallya left, March 2, banks had not started the legal process.
