Life Term for Killing Policeman Near Gorimedu

PUDUCHERRY: A local Court here convicted and sentenced a 27-year-old person to life-imprisonment for murdering a police constable

The Principal District Sessions Judge C.V.Karthikeyan held Sharath kumar, a resident of Boomiyanpet, pronounced guilty of murdering Palani, a former Tamil Nadu police constable, near Gorimedu on June 4, 2011.

Palani, a resident of Alankuppam, absconded from his duties at the Armed Reserve Police wing in Tamil Nadu since 2009. Under the influence of alcohol, he picked up quarrel with unknown persons near Gorimedu.

While returning home, Palani was attacked by unknown attackers killing him on the spot. D’Nagar Police registered the case, continued the investigation followed by the arrest of Sharath kumar.

He was charged under Section 302(Murder) of IPC. The chief judge sentenced him to life-imprisonment besides imposing fine of Rs.1000.
