The Assembly elections in five states threw up two significant results: women leaders, Jayalalithaa in Tamil Nadu and Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal, won second terms against the trend of incumbents getting beaten. The BJP created history in Assam by winning the northeastern state for the first time and in Kerala by notching up a 15 per cent vote share.

The graphic story below sums up the results of the elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry.
