SRINAGAR: This is a heart-warming love story that shows how human emotions traverse political conflicts and boundaries. A police officer in Kashmir tied the knot with a girl from his extended family separated during the partition.

Owais Gilani married Syeda Faiza Gilani, a resident of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir earlier this week. The bride and her family travelled across the border after the curfew was lifted on August 29. The marriage was solemnised in Srinagar on August 30.

However, the Nikkah happened in 2014, when the groom’s family had travelled across the border to meet relatives separated by the partition. “We decided to renew our bond by the marriage,” says the groom’s father. “We cancelled it thrice before. Now, instead of waiting for peace, we decided to go ahead during the unrest,” he adds.
