“We have lodged a formal complaint with the GRP which will probe the incident. As per our agreement the contractor will be accountable for any theft, fire or damage of the parked vehicles. He will pay the compensation through the general insurance that he was expected to ensure according to the contract,” Raipur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rahul Gautam told the New Indian Express.

The railways have allotted 3,500 sq ft area to the contractor. Nearly a thousand two-wheelers and bicycles are parked in the allotted area but on Sunday the number of vehicles was comparatively lesser, a GRP officer said.

No person has sustained any injury during the incident. “The fire was spreading fast but the RPF and GRP personnel along with few civilians managed to remove some vehicles from the parking area”, Raipur GRP incharge Rajkumar Borcha said.
