JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government will soon introduce a "biography" of the Hindu deity Parashuram in school libraries and include a chapter on him in textbooks. State education minister Vasudev Devnani today said the chapter would be included in the school syllabus from next year.

The move by the BJP government in the state comes after its proposal to amend "distorted" history textbooks to show that it was Rajput warrior Maharana Pratap who defeated the army of Mughal emperor Akbar in the Battle of Haldighati in 1576, and not the other way round.

"We will start the process to include a chapter on Lord Parashuram this year and will include it in the school education syllabus from next year. In addition, we will also introduce his biography in school libraries," said Devnani, who had earlier hit the headlines after suggesting that cows exhale oxygen.

The minister was addressing a gathering at a ceremony in Ajmer to mark the life of Lord Parashuram. Devnani said that representatives of various organisations had proposed the inclusion of a chapter on Lord Parashuram in the school curriculum, following which the decision had been taken.
