HYDERABAD: Condemning the alleged molestation of 16 schoolgirls by Central Reserve Police Force personnel at a tribal welfare residential school at Palnar in Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, members of Civil Liberties Committee here on Friday demanded action against Dantewada collector and superintendent of police.

“The incident took place on July 31, when about 500 girls had gathered in the school to tie Rakhi on CRPF personnel. Later, when the victims lodged a complaint against the jawans, CRPF chief suspended two lower-level jawans while main culprits are district collector and the SP,” said Laxman Gaddam, CLC president.

The issue came to light when human rights activist Himanshu Kumar shared it on Facebook, he said. “Our committee, comprising 18 members of the Co-Ordination of Democracy Rights Organisation (CDRO), visited Sukma district to find facts but were taken into custody for more than six hours and shifted to a community hall,” Gaddam said and alleged that before commissioning the Naganoor steel factory, the Centre had handed over the entire project to private companies.
