NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday came down heavily on Maxis shareholders Ananth Krishnan, Ralph Marshall and two other companies for not responding to summons from the CBI special court to appear in the case.

Four accused, including two companies, were named in the chargesheet by the CBI and have repeatedly refused to appear before the special court. The development comes a day after the CBI special court discharged Maran brothers in the Aircel Maxis deal case. During the hearing, a bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar pulled up senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing on behalf of Aircel and warned the people evading the law like Ananth Krishnan, Ralph Marshall and said they would be duly penalised and the spectrum of Aircel would be auctioned off if accused persons did not appear before the court. The court said that “no absconder can evade the process of law.”

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate moved the apex court to restrain the special 2G court from releasing the attached properties and execution of bail bond of Maran brothers Dayanidhi and Kalanithi after their discharge in the `742.58 crore Aircel-Maxis deal cases.
