MADURAI: A journalist with a TV news channel was stabbed in the shoulder and stomach by a gang this morning when he was headed to a shop near his house to buy groceries in Madurai.

Police suspect that R Chandran, aged 46, was attacked by a ganja-peddling gang against whom Chandran had lodged police complaints.

Chandran, a reporter with the Tamil news channel Polimer, resides at Thabal Thandi Nagar in Madurai along with his wife and two sons.

Around 7.30 am this morning he had gone to buy milk from a nearby shop when the gang surrounded him and stabbed him, local sources told Express.

Chandran was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he is being treated.

Only last October, in a similar incident Chandran's 18-year-old son Rathismon was similarly assaulted by a gang that had trespassed into their house.

The Tallakulam police have registered a case and officers have named two persons who they suspect to have assaulted Chandran.
