NEW DELHI: National carrier Air India has decided to reserve six economy class seats in the front row for women passengers preferably those travelling alone, for their safety, for which it would not charge an additional money.

The decision, the first of its kind being taken by any carrier globally, Air India would implement this facility for women passengers from January 18.

Interestingly, airlines charge a premium for front row seats due to its larger leg space.

A similar reservation for women is taken in state-run roadways and city transport services besides train services including metro trains.

Air India officials explained that this decision would bring in some relief to women passengers, who face harassment inside aircraft including molestation or any other unwanted advances by men.
