Flab gates at stations to check ticketless travelers

From our online archive

NEW DELHI: To check ticketless travelers and ease pressure on ticket checkers at stations, railway is piloting a project of using access control systems which will have bar code scanners like used at metro stations at railway stations.

Initially stations with fewer footfalls will be selected and first trails are slated to start at Brar Square station in Delhi Division. The station will be fenced to ensure people don’t get entry from openings on either sides of platform.

The technology has been developed by railways IT arm, CRIS and QR coded tickets will be issued to unreserved category passengers for entry to platform. The passenger will have to validate the ticket at the flap gates for gaining access to station.

The cost of the project is around four lakh and railway is expecting that it will also ease pressure on ticket checkers.
