PATNA: A woman police officer in Bihar who had investigated the rape of a teenage girl by a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA last year was on Tuesday given additional security after she complained of renewed threats to her life by the MLA, who is presently in jail.

Mridula Kumari, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in the state Vigilance Investigation Bureau, alleged that the MLA, Rajballabh Yadav, threatened her with “dire consequences” if she did not cooperate with the efforts to secure his acquittal in the case.

Kumari was the station house officer (SHO) of the women’s police station in Nalanda district last year when the rape allegation against the MLA from Nawada surfaced. She was the investigation officer in the case. She was later promoted as a DSP and posted in Patna.

Yadav, who has been lodged in a Nalanda jail since November 2016 after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail, was brought to Patna on Tuesday amid tight security to cast his vote in the Presidential polls. Sources said he happened to see Mridula who was looking after security arrangements on the Assembly premises. He reportedly renewed threats during a brief conversation with her there.
