Maharashtra may soon have a sparrow breeding centre

MUMBAI: Maharashtra may soon have an artificial breeding centre for sparrows according to an announcement made by Forest minister, Sudhir Mungantiwar on Monday, which also happens to be World Sparrow Day.

The forest department has initiated a project to conduct surveys of habitats of sparrows and suggest ways for their conservation.

The project would be initiated in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park at Borivali in Mumbai along with the forest areas in-and-around Nagpur, Chandrapur and Aurangabad cities in the first phase, the minister said.

He added the next phase would include setting up of an artificial breeding centre for sparrows.
