CHANDIGARH: The Union government directed all the northern States to treat Kashmiri students residing these States properly and with respect.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh who was on Friday chairing the Northern Zonal Council meeting, advised all chief ministers, ministers and chief secretaries present that students and youth of Kashmir across the country should be treated nicely and provided a comfortable environment.

He stressed that the youth of India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari are our own children and be treated accordingly.

Rajnath Singh said all the States have been directed to take strict action against those indulging in perpetrating any sort of violence against Kashmiri students.

In November last year, three Kashmiri students studying at Doaba Group of Colleges at Kharar in Mohali, were beaten up by a group of youth including fellow students on campus.

The police had then termed it a case of personal enmity. Eighteen issues, including the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal, drugs and security issues, are being taken up for discussion in the meeting.
