Five held in Maharashtra for betting on India-Australia ODI

MUMBAI: Five persons were arrested from a flat in suburban Mulund for allegedly betting on an ODI played between India and Australia, the police said today.

Police recovered three laptops, nine mobile phones, and cash worth Rs 2 lakh from the spot, a senior official said.

Police raided the flat yesterday on a tip-off and arrested suspected bookie Pravin Devde and his four accomplices, he said.

The accused persons have been booked under relevant sections of the Bombay Prevention of Gambling Act, he said.

Since the accused were using telephones for their dealings they have also been charged under the relevant sections of the Indian Telegraph Act, the official said, adding that further investigation is on.
