Products made by jail inmates up for grabs 
Now, the residents of the city can log online to buy products produced by inmates of the high- security model jail in Burail. The Department of Prisons and Correctional Administration has launched a website for the purpose. On offer are bakery items made by the inmates at the bakery of the jail. Furniture produced by prisoners in the jail workshop will be also available for consumers.  Those ordering furniture above H5,000 will get their consignment delivered free of cost. Any order below this amount will be charged H500 as delivery charges. Similarly, if a consumer orders bakery items less than H2,000, then H100 will be deducted as delivery charges.

New housing scheme in the offing 
The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) will launch a new housing scheme on Baisakhi (April 14).  Under this scheme, a total of 700 residential freehold plots, measuring 100, 150, 200, 300, 400 and 500 square yards, will be allotted through the draw of lots. This scheme is in IT City which is on the 200-foot-wide road leading to the Chandigarh International Airport and is spread across 1,722 acre in Sectors 66-B, 82-A, 83-A and 101-A. This will be the first residential housing scheme being launched in the state after the formation of the Congress government last year.

More responsibilities for PCR vehicles
Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles in Chandigarh will now have more responsibilities. From now onwards, these vehicles will not stand at one spot but will patrol in their respective areas and send alerts to the police control room regarding any suspicious movement. The control room will further flash the message to the staff concerned so that suspicious vehicles can be intercepted for investigation. In snatching cases, the PCR vehicles will lookout for details of two-wheelers with the help of application ‘Vahan’. 

Membership forms for swimming pools
The Sports Department of Chandigarh Administration has announced that the all the swimming pools in the city will be open for general public from April 10. The sports department runs swimming pool at the Lake Sports Complex, besides managing the nursery swimming pool in Sector 23 and all-weather swimming pool in the same sector. It also runs the sports complex swimming pool in Sector 42. Interested parties can get membership forms for this season from the managers of these facilities.

Change in dates for airport closure
Airport officials have announced a change in the dates of the closure of the Chandigarh International Airport. Earlier, the airport was to remain shut from May 12 to May 31 for runway work. But due to the 49th Conference of Governors from May 18-20, the airport will be operational from May 18 to May 20. Instead, it will be closed in two phases from May 12 to May 17 and then again from May 21 till June 3. The airport was closed from February 12 to February 26 to increase the runway length. The remaining expansion work will be done in May.
