HYDERABAD: The Bill relating to one Tribunal for resolving inter-state disputes of all the rivers in the country will be adopted in the second session of the Budget session of the Parliament to commence in March. Union Minister of State for Water Resources Arjun Ram Meghwal announced this on the sidelines of the first regional conference of Southern States on Water resources on Tuesday. “I have confidence that the Bill will be passed in the ensuing session of the Parliament,” he said.

Though the Inter-State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill was introduced in the Parliament in March, 2017, it was not adopted so far. The Bill proposed to set up an Inter-State River Water Disputes Tribunal for adjudication of water disputes. The Centre proposed One Nation-One Tribunal for all river water disputes. “Once, the single Tribunal is constituted, all the existing Tribunals will be merged with the single tribunal. Cases pending with various Tribunals will be transferred to single Tribunal,” Arjun Ram Meghwal said.

CRMB to be constituted soon

Arjun Ram Meghwal said that following the Supreme Court’s recent judgement on Cauvery river water dispute, the Water Resources Ministry would soon constitute Cauvery River Management Board (CRMB) and also Cauvery Regulatory Authority (CRA) soon.
