SRINAGAR: Train service was suspended for security reasons in south Kashmir, where an encounter took place between militants, holed up in a house, and security forces in Anantnag early Wednesday morning.

However, all trains were running as per scheduled in north Kashmir between Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla, a senior railway official told UNI.

He said a fresh advisory was received from police this morning to suspend all trains in south Kashmir for security reasons.

Therefore, he said, no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

Meanwhile, hundreds of passengers, who had arrived at railway stations in south Kashmir, were disappointed after they were informed that all trains have been suspended in south Kashmir.

Passengers travelling in the train from Banihal to Srinagar accused authorities of failing to provide them prior information about the suspension of railway service.
