RAIPUR: With the Chhattisgarh elections barely a few months away, another retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer joined the opposition Congress party on Sunday.

Serjius Minj, who retired as additional chief secretary and later served as Chhattisgarh state chief information commissioner till 2016 was welcomed to the party fold by the Congress state in-charge P L Punia.

Minj is the second retired bureaucrat to join the Congress party in a span of two days. On Saturday, RPS Tyagi joined the opposition party at Rajiv Bhawan in Raipur.

Though the Congress leaders are silent on whether the two former IAS officers would be pushed into the electoral battlefield straightaway or they would be used in organisational roles.

Party insiders said Minj might emerge as one of the probable candidates from the Kunkuri Assembly seat in his home district Jashpur.

Similarly some leaders opined that Tyagi, who served as the collector in Korba, Janjgir-Champa and Dhamtari, may be fielded from Katghora in Korba district.

The previous week, former Raipur collector Om Prakash Choudhary had resigned to launch his political career in an election year in Chhattisgarh. He took membership of the BJP in the presence of party president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Raman Singh in Delhi.
