CBI sets up special unit to tackle child pornography

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has set up an Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (OCSAE) prevention and investigation unit in New Delhi to tackle sexual exploitation of children.

The unit will operate under the special crime zone and will take up complaints of child pornography. According to sources, the decision to set up the unit was taken after the German Police gave information to the CBI regarding seven Indians involved in international child pornography. The Indians are being probed by the agency currently.

The unit will collect, collate and disseminate information regarding publication, transmission, creation, collection, seeking, browsing, downloading, advertising, promoting, exchanging, distribution of information relating to online child sexual abuse and exploitation and investigation of such offences. 
The new unit will deal with crimes under the IPC, POCSO Act, the Information Technology Act 2000 as well as under various laws, as applicable.
