NEW DELHI: Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, who is in custody of the Enforcement Directorate in the INX Media case, was taken to AIIMS on Monday evening after he complained of acute stomach ache.

He was later discharged after treatment. According to AIIMS sources, Chidambaram was taken to the hospital for a checkup at 5.40 pm and was examined by a team of doctors.

This was the fourth time that the former finance minister was taken to the hospital in custody. Chidambaram had repeatedly complained of losing weight. According to sources, he complained of stomach ache and was taken the first time to the hospital on October 7 and thereafter, on October 23 and 25.

On October 24, Chidambaram had requested a Delhi court to grant him two-day interim bail for getting treatment of his acute stomach pain in a hospital in Hyderabad.

However, the court directed that he be taken to AIIMS in case of any medical complication. While those close to Chidambaram said “his condition is not good”, ED sources claimed “there was nothing serious”.

In custody
Chidambaram has been lodged in the Tihar Jail since September 6 over corruption in the INX media case after the CBI booked him. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the case, but the ED slapped another case against him and took his custody.
