SRINAGAR:  A decomposed body was recovered by police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday. It is suspected that the body is of army man Shakir Manzoor, who was abducted by militants on August 2, 2020.

While the family said the body was that of Shakir, the police were conducting a DNA match to ascertain the matter. A police official said some locals noticed the decomposed body near a mobile phone tower in village Mohammad Pora on Wednesday morning.

“We identified the body. It was Shakir’s body as there was a surgery mark on his left leg and the mark was very much visible,” said Shakir’s brother Shaan Manzoor Wagay.

The police, according to Shaan, has taken DNA samples of the family and it will be matched with the DNA samples of the body recovered today. Shakir, a 24-year-old soldier of Territorial Army, was abducted by militants on August 2 last year near his residence at Reshipora.
