NEW DELHI: As Lok Sabha witnessed uproarious scenes on Wednesday over the Hindenburg short-seller report, some portions of the speech made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were expunged from the records of the Lower House because it was not substantiated with proof.
In a scathing attack against the BJP government on Tuesday, Gandhi questioned the relationship between the BJP government and Adani, while accusing the government of tweaking rules for the group. The expunged remarks also include Gandhi’s allegations regarding the Mumbai airport, wherein he had said the airport takeover by the Adani Group was facilitated through the Enforcement Directorate.
Some of the remarks were expunged by Speaker Om Birla invoking the rule on the need to authenticate the allegations made in Parliament. Responding to it, Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh said that democracy is being cremated in the Lok Sabha.
Along with Rahul’s remarks, TMC MP Mahua Moitra’s ‘offensive words were also expunged from records. However, defending her stand, Moitra said that she did not use the ‘word’ on record. Moitra used the ‘objectionable word’ at Delhi BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who interrupted her speech several times in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
During the debate on the Motion of Thanks on President’s address, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi demanded action against Rahul Gandhi for the ‘objectionable and baseless allegations and that his speech should be expunged from records. Joshi said that a privilege motion will be moved against Gandhi for his comments.
