DEHRADUN:  The results of Karnataka Assembly elections shook Uttarakhand BJP and its top leaders. The debacle affected the party’s scheduled celebrations over its massive victory in the civic polls in Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP refrained from celebrating at the party headquarters on Balbir Road in the capital. Political experts believe that the defeat in Karnataka will also be a challenge for the Uttarakhand BJP in the upcoming elections.

Reacting to the Karnataka assembly election results against the party, BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt told this newspaper, “We accept the mandate, although the party fought the elections in a spectacular manner, the result was not in our favour so we need to work harder.” He claimed that like the civic polls in UP, the party will repeat its massive victory in Uttarakhand as well”.

Speaking to this daily, BJP state spokesperson Sunita Vidyarthi Baurai said, “We have lost 38 seats due to a reduction of 0.35 vote percentage in Karnataka, but Modi’s magic remains intact and people’s faith is also unbreakable.”

“In Uttarakhand, the BJP has taken unprecedented decisions and enacted historic laws, which will directly benefit the common man. The Uniform Civil Code is a living example of this,” Spokesperson Sunita added.
