ROURKELA: Callousness of morgue attendant of Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) and Government Railway Police (GRP) came to the fore on Wednesday after GRP received a wrong body and buried it only to exhume it after noticing the mistake.
RGH Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr RC Behera said, an unidentified old man, in his sixties, was brought to the RGH by some volunteers under Jhirpani police limits on December 26. He was declared brought dead and body preserved at the RGH morgue.
He said, another young male accident victim, in his late 20s, was admitted by the GRP and during treatment he died early in the morning the same day.
Both bodies were kept in the morgue and on Wednesday forenoon GRP personnel reached the RGH for inquest, took the old man’s body and buried it. Later, the Jhirpani police claimed the old man’s body only to detect that the GRP had buried the wrong body.
Jhirpani police station IIC RN Padhi said, after exhuming the old man’s body it was again preserved at RGH morgue and would be disposed of after inquest. Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP) KS Kawar said, an explanation would be sought from the Investigating Officer (IO) of the GRP and appropriate action would be taken.
