BERHAMPUR:Resentment is brewing among the consumers of the city over closure of agency office which was engaged by Southco to sell LED bulbs.

Sources said a private agency was pressed into service to sell subsidised LED bulbs under Ujala Yojana. After selling LED bulbs, tubelights and fans worth around `1.5 crore in the Southern region in a month, the firm closed its office. The consumers, who want to exchange their defective bulbs, are visiting the Southco offices in their respective areas, but to no avail.

Subash Senapati, who purchased five bulbs and two tubelights in January, said, “After three months, I found the bulbs to be defective and for the last two months, I have been visiting the Southco office at Courtpeta here to exchange it with the new ones as per the provisions under the scheme, but there are no officials.”

However, Southco officials shifted the responsibility to the agency and stated that the sale will begin soon. Meanwhile, some customers, who failed to exchange their defective bulbs, have decided to move the consumer court.
