BHUBANESWAR: Power supply to Ganjam, Huma and Rambha areas is all set to improve now that the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL) has completed renovation of the Ganjam sub-station.

The 132/133 KV grid sub-station of OPTCL was badly damaged due to salinity in the area and affected by emission of chlorine gas from a nearby factory. The support structures of the sub-station and equipment were also damaged as a result of which the 33KV line from the grid sub-station was frequently affected leading to interruption of power to Ganjam, Huma and Rambha. For some time, there was also local resentment and agitation over low-voltage and disruption.

The OPTCL awarded the renovation work to Bhubaneswar-based AK Das Associates Limited which took up the work on a war footing. The progress of the work was monitored by OPTCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Hemant Sharma while senior officials regularly supervised it. After AK Das Associates successfully completed the renovation, the sub-station was charged on Sunday which will improve stability and reliability besides enhancing power supply.
