SAMBALPUR: A week-long short-term course on ‘Composite: Manufacturing, Machining, Modelling and Optimization’ sponsored by Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) scheme of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was inaugurated at department of Production Engineering at VSS University of Technology (VSSUT) here on Monday. 

The objective of the course, which has 42 participants, is to provide basic knowledge and in-hand experience to academicians and researchers from different disciplines on recent development and technological advancement in composite materials from fundamentals to applications. 

Due to growing spectra of engineering applications, there is a strong demand for superior and newer materials. Thus, a good understanding of various new methodologies and technological aspects of manufacturing and machining of advanced composite materials are essential for academicians and researchers. This apart, accurate modelling of advanced composite structures is also equally important for optimum design and subsequent manufacturing.

The course will address all the above issues. 
Among others, VSSUT Vice Chancellor Prof B B Pati, Dean, CDCE Prof P K Hota, Head of Production Engineering department Prof Debudatta Mishra, course coordinator Dr Trupti Ranjan Mahapatra and co-coordinator Biren Kumar Barik were present.
