BENGALURU: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested Sathvik Vishwanath, CEO and co-founder of Unocoin Technologies Pvt Ltd, which had set up India’s first ATM kiosk in Bengaluru to trade in cryptocurrency, from Tumakuru on Wednesday. A laptop and a mobile phone were seized from him.
On Tuesday, the CCB had arrested Harish B V, co-founder and Chief Financial & Compliance Officer of the firm. Police said that the duo admitted during questioning that the firm had around 53 lakh registered customers.
“They were running the trade since 2014 and had customers in India and abroad. Going by their statements, it is suspected that they made transactions worth several lakhs in bitcoins every day. The two arrested persons were the owners of the firm and we will arrest others if their role is established during the course of the probe,” a CCB official said.
The police have booked them for forgery, criminal conspiracy, cheating, using a forged document as genuine and provisions of the Information Technology Act.
