Chennai, Dec 5 (PTI) The nomination papers of actorVishal Krishna and late J Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa Jayakumarfor the December 21 R K Nagar bypoll here, were today rejectedby Election authorities, a senior official said.

"Both their nominations have been rejected. We willget full details later...it is a quasi judicial process," theofficial told PTI.

Asked about the reason for rejecting the papers, theofficial said it was "technical.""...there were some flaws in the nomination..it is anorder passed by the Returning Officer," he added.

Vishal, who heads the Tamil Film Producers Counciland is the general secretary of the Nadigar Sangam (SouthIndian Artistes' Association), said he was told at the lastminute that there were "discrepancies," in the papers inrespect of signatures.

Alongwith several of his supporters, he brieflysquatted on the road in North Chennai protesting the decisionto reject his papers.

He was removed from the spot by police.

Opposing election authorities' rejecting hernomination, Deepa alleged it was not done for any validreasons. "It is being done wantonly," she added.

As many as 145 nominations were received fromaspirants seeking to contest the bypoll.

Currently, scrutiny of nominations are on and anofficial update on the total number of papers accepted andrejected is expected later.
