Three injured in leopard attack in UP

Bahraich (UP), Dec 8 (PTI) Three people were injured in aleopard attack in Khairipurva village here, forest officialssaid.

The villagers--Purnarain (58), Anil (25) and Lakhmina(50)--were attacked by the leopardess, that had lost its cub,in Kakraha range of the Katarniyaghat wildlife sanctuaryyesterday, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) G P Singh said.

The leopardess retreated to the forest after it found thecub, the DFO said, adding that the injured were admitted tothe district hospital.

The department later announced an aid of Rs 10,000 toeach of the injured, the DFO said.

All necessary precautions were being taken to ensure thesafety of the villagers, he said.

In 2017, five people were killed and 17 others injured invarious incidents of leopard attacks in the sanctuary. PTICORR SAB DPBIJT.
