Nagpur, Dec 20 (PTI) Maharashtra chief ministerDevendra Fadnavis today blamed the banks for making mistakesin names and account numbers in the loan waiver scheme.
Speaking in the Assembly, Fadnavis said, "The banksmade mistakes in the account numbers and names of accountholders. It leads to confusion as names of a Shiv Sena MLA anda former NCP MP were listed as beneficiaries."In both the cases, the persons had not applied forloan waiver, he said.
"Our parallel system of getting farmers to registerthemselves on "Aapale Sarkar" portal helped us to expose sucherrors," Fadnavis added.
He was speaking on the floor of the House afteropposition leaders raised objections over mistakes in the loanwaiver scheme.
The CM said that some banks were aware of thediscrepancies in account numbers and actual names but hadfailed to inform the government.
Fadnavis said, "Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Abitkar did notapply for the loan waiver scheme but his name appeared insteadof actual beneficiary Prakash Sutar. The list issued by thestate government showed AbitkarÂ’s name and his back accountnumber."Fadnavis also explained how the name of a former MPfrom Jalgaon appeared on the list of beneficiaries.
"Latabai Suresh Patil was actually the beneficiary ofloan waiver scheme of Maharashtra government. But because ofthe bankÂ’s mistake, name of Vasantrao More, former Member ofParliament appeared in the list," he said.
"These mistakes were revealed because the Maharashtragovernment had a parallel list of beneficiary farmers andtheir bank account details," said Fadnavis.

"This provision is done to fix the responsibility ofthe banks," said Fadnavis.
