India looks to excel in Skill Olympics

Kolkata, Oct 13 (PTI) India is looking to excel atWorldSkills Competition 2017, popularly known as SkillOlympics, being held in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emiratesfrom tomorrow.

India will be participating in 26 categories in thecompetition that will conclude on October 19, a press releasetoday said.

Two of the 28 members of the Indian team hail fromWest Bengal, the release added.

Of them, Asrof Jamal, one of the two participants fromWest Bengal, had studied Jewellery manufacturing in Bengaluruand got selected for the competition in July 2016, where hestood second and sailed through in the subsequent regionalrounds held at Ganjam and Jaipur.

The 21-year-old Rohim Momin, the other participantfrom the state, will compete in the brick laying segment. Hestarted working for ATS in Delhi from 2013 and from 2015 andrepresented ATS at the Regional Competition held in Delhi andalso awarded a silver medal for excellence in brick layingwork.

The WorldSkills Competition is a flagship event of theWorldSkills International, organised every two years and thebiggest vocational education and skills excellence event inthe world.

"They would compete at the WorldSkills Competitionagainst the best of their peers from around the world,"Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was quoted in therelease as saying.

Pradhan also holds the Minister for Skill Developmentand Entrepreneurship. PTI SUSJM.
