Dubai, Oct 30 (AP) Saudi Arabia will allow women intosports stadiums as of next year, the kingdom's latest steptoward easing rules on gender segregation but they will beseated in the so-called family section, an area separate fromthe male-only crowd.

The General Sports Authority described Sunday's decisionas one that will allow "families" into the stadiums, a termauthorities use to refer to public spaces that accommodatewomen.

The authority said the three major sports stadiums in thecities of Riyadh, Jiddah and Dammam will undergo renovationsto accommodate families, reversing years of long-standingpractice to allow only men into the stadiums.

The decision comes after the public appeared to welcomelast month's move that allowed women for the first time intothe Riyadh stadium for national day celebrations. AP KHSKHS.
