The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association was permitted by the first bench of the Madras High Court to use the I, J and K stands of the MAC Stadium for the ensuing ODI match between India and Pakistan on December 30 here. The TNCA could go ahead with the sale of tickets in the three stands, the bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam said on Tuesday while allowing a miscellaneous petition from the association. For this purpose, the bench stayed the operation of an order dated August 25 this year of the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), which asked the CMDA not to use the three stands till the multi-level car parking was constructed.
The bench, however, said that the ACP (Traffic) was at liberty to impose other conditions for regulating the parking of vehicles during the match and the TNCA should comply with all such conditions scrupulously. The petitioner association should also indemnify the authorities from any damage or claims that might occur on account of the permission granted to it to use the stands, the bench added.
The bench made it clear that the permission was granted considering the peculiar circumstances of the case and taking note of the importance of the event and the large number of fans. It should not be treated as a precedent for any future matches and should be confined only to the match to be held on Dec 30, the bench said and posted the main petition from the CMDA after six weeks.
