National-level blind cricket tournament at Kochi

A non-profitable charity trust will hold anational-level blind cricket tournament in Kochi from October 12 to 14.

Speaking to media persons here today, Navaz Nizar, a memberof the trust, said, "We being serious observers of cricket have realisedthat blind cricket has not received as much attention and recognition itdeserves."

"...it is a selection tournament of the India team for theworld cup twenty-twenty tournament."    Four teams, India-Blue, India-Green, India-Yellow and India-Red areparticipating in the tournament.

The current Indian Blind Cricket team captain Shekar Naik fromKarnataka would lead the India-blue, India-Green will be led by Ajay Reddy fromAndhra Pradesh, India-Yellow by Ganesh Gujjara from Gujarat and India-red by BPrakash from Karnataka.

There will be seven matches including the final to be playedon October 14. Teams will play against each other once to decide the twofinalists, he said, adding it will be a20-over a side match.    

Indian cricketers S Sreesanth, Irfan Pathan, Y VenugopalRao,Varon Aaron and Ranji trophy players, including Kerala'sPrashant Chandran, C MDeepak, Rafi Vincent Gomez, Sony Cheruvathur and others have extended support,he said.
