35 Years of Dalmiya Era Takes Its Last Breath

KOLKATA: After nearly 35 years of administering cricket at various levels, from Indian cricket board treasurer to International Cricket Council president, BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya breathed his last on Sunday following a cardiac arrest in a hospital here. He was 75 and serving his second term as the BCCI supremo.

Widely regarded as the most authoritative and dynamic cricket administrator ever, his health has been waning in the last few months. On Thursday, he was admitted to the hospital with chest pain. However, it was later reported that he underwent an angioplasty and was stable. But his condition worsened by Sunday evening, following another heart attack. His condition aggravated due to gastrointestinal bleeding and internal organ failure.

Condolences poured in from various corners. “The cricketing fraternity will miss him dearly,” said BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur, who will now look after the day-to-day affairs of the board.

Subsequently, the BCCI will convene a Special General Meeting in 15 days, which will decide on the president till the next election.
