From Ashes to Border-Gavaskar Trophy, cricket has a few Iconic Tests series between various sides. Express takes a look at some of them...
Ashes
The second most fierce cricketing rivalry in the world, and certainly the oldest, the name traces its roots to 1882. There have been 332 Tests since then, with England winning 106, and Australia 135. Tests generally draw huge crowds.
India-England series
Strangely, this series has two different trophies. In India, the series is played for the Anthony De Mello Trophy (after the famous administrator), and the winners in England are awarded the Pataudi Trophy. England are the current holders of both the trophies, having beaten India in 2012 (in India) and 2014 (in England).
Freedom Trophy
Also known as the Gandhi-Mandela Trophy, it honours the close connection that India shares with South Africa, and the respective leaders, who were pioneers of non-violent agitation. The trophy was instituted in 2015, and the first series was played later that year. For the record, India won the four-Test series 3-0.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Played between India and Australia, the series has gained huge importance over the years. The trophy was first handed out for the 1996–97 series in India. The most famous series of course, took place in 2000-01.
Frank Worrell Trophy
Along with The Ashes, the Frank Worrell Trophy (WI-England) is considered to be one of the most respected trophies in the world of cricket, but its importance has diminished along with calibre of West Indies Test cricket.
