NEW DELHI: A day after the Supreme Court gave senior advocate Fali S Nariman the responsibility of suggesting names for individuals who can work as administrators for the apex cricket body in the country, he recuses from the task stating that he had appeared for the BCCI in 2009 as retainer and it wouldn't be right if he accepts this role.

Nariman informed the court that he had held retainer for BCCI till some years ago and told the bench it was embarrassing for him to suggest administrators for the board.

A bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur on his last working day in the apex court accepted Nariman's request and replaced him with senior advocate Anil Diwan.

Modifying its earlier order, the court substitutes Nariman with senior advocate Anil Divan who, along with amicus Gopal Subramaniam, will now suggest names working as BCCI administrators.

On Monday, the court removed BCCI President Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke, from their respective posts following defiance towards both the court order and key suggestions of Justice R M Lodha panel to reform the sport's functioning.

The bench also made it clear that those BCCI members who are not disqualified shall give an undertaking that they will abide by Justice Lodha reforms and said that senior most Vice President and Secretary shall take over the posts of president and secretary in the meantime.

The order comes after Lodha Committee’s third status report which was submitted on November 14, asking for the disqualification of office-bearers of the BCCI and all state associations.
