CHENNAI: Contrary to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) claim, the BCCI believes it owes their counterparts nothing for not playing bilateral series against Pakistan, as marked in the ICC’s schedule. The PCB has demanded $60 million in compensation. In no mood to give in, the BCCI expects PCB to take it up with ICC.
PCB chairman Shahryar Khan said in Karachi on Tuesday that they have received a response from BCCI explaining why bilateral series is not possible now.
“The MoU signed between the two boards is not a legal obligation. It doesn’t factor in the political situation. We can’t play Pakistan right now because of restrictions at the government level. For us or any country, the government’s decision on such matters is obviously more compelling than any MoU,” a BCCI source told Express.
“Since there is no question of compensation, we expect PCB to approach the ICC’s dispute addressal committee. For us also, it will become easier to explain why we can’t play Pakistan in the current political scenario. It’s better if we can say these at a legal forum.”
