PRAGUE: Czech champions Slavia Prague signed Slovak midfielder Miroslav Stoch from Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce on a two-year contract on Friday.

"Naturally I want to play and help Slavia defend the title," said the 27-year-old Stoch, who has scored six goals in 55 games for the Slovak national team.

"The big chance to play the Champions League is quite tempting too," Stoch added ahead of Slavia's clash with Apoel Nicosia in the play-off round next week.

Owned by China's CEFC company, Slavia have gone on a shopping spree this summer -- besides Stoch, they have signed Portuguese midfielder Danny, Turkish midfielder Halil Altintop and Ukraine internationals Ruslan Rotan and Eduard Sobol.

Stoch moved from Slovak side FC Nitra to Chelsea at age 17, but he only managed four games for the Blues before being loaned to Dutch side Twente.

He moved to Fenerbahce in 2010 and spent the last three seasons on loan at PAOK, Al Ain and Bursaspor.

Slavia have won four titles since former Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993, giving rise to an independent Czech league.
