VIENNA: Austria goalkeeper Ramazan Oezcan is retiring from the national team for personal reasons after nine years.

The 32-year-old Leverkusen player says "it's time for me to step back and direct my attention to my family."

He had been expected to play in next week's World Cup qualifier against Moldova because Austria coach Marcel Koller's first-choice keeper, Robert Almer, is still recovering from a torn ACL. Koller will announce a replacement on Tuesday.

Usually a back-up for Almer in recent years, Oezcan played 10 international games, including the most recent qualifiers against Serbia and Ireland. He was part of the host Austrian squad for the 2008 European Championship and again at last year's tournament in France.

Oezcan played for Salzburg, Hoffenheim and Ingolstadt before joining Leverkusen last year.
