SYDNEY: Venezuelan international Ronald Vargas has signed a one-year deal with the Newcastle Jets in the Australian A-League, the club said on Saturday.
Vargas, 30, joins the Jets from AEK Athens subject to a medical assessment.
The attacking midfielder made 122 appearances for Belgian clubs Club Brugge and RSC Anderlecht before playing 50 games for AEK Athens over two seasons.
Vargas has 23 caps for the Venezuelan national team since his international debut in 2008.
“He’s an exciting, international player with experience in some of the finest leagues in the world and will offer a great deal to our play in the front third," Jets coach Ernie Merrick said.
The A-League season kicks off on October 6.
