As star shuttler Sindhu PV heads into her Olympics final match, here’s a reminder about the gritty girl’s Chennai connection. Sindhu is the captain of the Chennai Smashers Indian Premier Badminton League team, owned by actor-politician Vijayakanth's Son Vijay Prabhakaran.

In fact, Prabhakaran is also Sindhu’s main sponsor, and the two are great friends. There’s even a fun dubsmash video the two have done together of a clip from the Nayanthara-Vijay Sethupathi  film ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’.

Vijay Prabhakaran emerged the highest bidder in December last year for the Chennai Smashers badminton team, which has four Indian players, including PV Sindhu, Sikki Reddy, Pranav Chopra and Sri Krishna Priya.  “Our main target was P V Sindhu. I’m really happy that we have achieved that (securing her services),” he had said.

As Chennai cheers for its girl in Rio, it’s fingers crossed.
