JAIPUR: The Rajasthan High Court has directed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to ensure that the Lodha Committee recommendations are implemented in all sports bodies within three months.

The order was passed yesterday by a single bench of Justice JK Ranka.

Earlier in a landmark judgement on July 18, 2016, the Supreme Court accepted major recommendations of Justice R.M. Lodha-led panel on structural reforms in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The apex court has given six months time to the BCCI to implement the recommendations.

However, even after one year, the board has still not implemented the recommendations in toto.

It is for the first time that the judiciary has directed other sports bodies to implement Lodha recommendations which were till now specific to cricket.

However, it is unlikely that the sports bodies will be accepting Monday’s verdict, if one goes by the BCCI’s response till now.

A number of sports associations in the country continues to be run by officials who have been holding on to their posts for years. And many of them are being headed by persons who are above 70 years of age.
