NEW DELHI: German figure skater Nicole Schott has been widely condemned on social media, after choosing to perform her Winter Olympic routine to the music from Holocaust film 'Schindler's List'.

'Schindler's List', a 1993 film, depicts the story of a German factory owner, and his attempts to spare the lives of thousands of Jewish people during the holocaust in World War II. Composer John Williams also won an Academy Award for 'Best Original Score' with his piece "Theme from Schindler's List".

However, when Schott opted to perform on the film’s music, it did not go down well with some as she was branded insensitive for her choice. It is not the first time the music has been chosen for a figure skating competition, although it is the first instance that a German performed on it in an Olympic. The 21-year-old, however, did not win a medal in the event.
