DG Vaishnav and MOP Vaishnav bag titles

In the women’s category, MOP Vaishnav College girls — with 14 gold, 11 silver and eight bronze —  were declared the overall champions.

CHENNAI: DG Vaishnav College, which won seven gold, four silver and seven bronze medals in all the athletic events, was adjudged the overall men’s champion at the Dr Sir A Lakshmanaswamy Mudaliar golden jubilee commemoration athletics meet on Friday. Loyola College settled for runner-up position after winning six gold, six silver and eight bronze. 

In the women’s category, MOP Vaishnav College girls — with 14 gold, 11 silver and eight bronze —  were declared the overall champions. After securing three gold, two silver and four bronze, Ethiraj College girls settled for the second spot. In the men’s section, B Nithin of RKM Vivekananda College with 1072 points was declared as the individual champion while AP Srija of MOP Vaishnav College, who amassed 1066 points, was the best woman athlete.

IOB, SAI win
IOB and SAI posted victories in the Chennai Hockey Association’s Shiram City Super Six league at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium. IOB drubbed Southern Railway 6-2 while Sports Authority of India edged past Integral Coach Factory 1-0.

Results: IOB 6 (Harmanpreet 2, SM Rafeeq 2, Saravanakumar 1, V Vinod Rayer 1) bt Southern Railway 2 (Aravind, Suresh Kumar); SAI 1 (S Shanmugavel) bt ICF 0.

Harsha shines
Harsha Rajkumar’s 5 for 31 helped City I bag a lead of 27 runs over City II in the drawn match of the TNCA Round Robin U-14 final. City I won by virtue of first innings lead.
Brief scores: City I 191 in 88.2 ovs drew with City II 164 in 76.1 ovs (R Javed Mohammed 51, P Ashwin Aadhithya 37; Harsha Rajkumar 5/31, Chirag Sridhar 4/43). City I won with the first innings lead.
